Hybrid Broadcast Broadband Television (HbbTV) is a pan-European specification for television delivered over both broadcast and broadband Internet connections, delivering information and entertainment services to HbbTV-enabled set-top boxes and iDTVs.
HbbTV provides numerous services at the touch of the remote’s red button including multimedia electronic program guides with user-friendly search functions, high-resolution images, sound recordings and video previews. And in addition to programming-related offers, interactive content such as online shopping options or direct viewer participation in game shows, castings and political programs is also at your fingertips. Last but not least, HbbTV also allows you to directly access the internet through your television – quickly call up social networks like Facebook or popular sites like eBay and Amazon. With HbbTV, you can even play interactive games right on your television.
Services such as digital teletext, catch-up TV, electronic programme guides, interactive advertising, games and voting are all possible with HbbTV and many services are already being provided by broadcasters in France, Spain and Germany, with other countries set to follow.
To view HbbTV content you will need a receiver that supports IPTV as well as being HbbTV-enabled. Many modern IPTV/satellite receivers such as the VU+ Solo 2 and Icecrypt S3700 are ready to receive HbbTV conent.
